Bike Maintenance Tips
1. The most important thing in a bike is ENGiNE OiL. Correct Quality and quantity of engine oil will increase life of engine by 100%. It will also make the engine run more smoothly. Keep engine oil quantity up to the upper mark on dip-stick. Some bikes don’t have dip-stick. In such bikes keep oil level up to the mark indicated on the transparent inspection window on the crankcase cover. Check for oil leakage and rectify leaking spots.
2. Take care of the battery. Check that water level in battery and top up with
distilled water only. Check this battery water level twice a month in summer and
once a month in winter and rainy season. Distilled water should be filled only
up to the upper level indicated on the battery. If you fill water more than
that, battery might leak (which is acid) and will corrode the paint the
swing-arm as well as the plating on the silencer. If bike is not going to be
used for longer period, remove battery from bike and keep it separately where
children cannot reach it. Leaving battery in bike for long period of non-use
will make the battery die quickly. Clean spark plug electrodes with emery paper
every month.
3. Brakes are the most important part of the bike. They are the difference
between life and death. In disc brakes get the hydraulics serviced every two
months or every 2000 km and check brake-pad wear. If squeaking sound comes when
apply brake, it means pads are either worn out or petrified. Change them.
